Erwartungen in gar nichts

Sofort nach meiner Ankunft melde ich mich.

Floriz, 1

On the trip home 2 – we’re taking the Aspang train line – we are stopping here in order to pump high-altitude air into our lungs and have a look around. But I must tell you immediately that this much-vaunted place does not correspond to our needs or expectations in any way.

As soon as I return, I shall get in touch.

To you and your family, best wishes from the two of us,
Your

Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is not recorded in Schenker's diary.

2 From Reigersberg Castle, Ilz, in Styria, where the Schenkers had been since c. June 20. Schenker wrote again to Violin (postcard not surviving) on September 8: “An Floriz (K.): kommen am 12., bitte zunächst ihn, dann alle!” (“To Floriz (postcard): we are returning on the 12th, I shall get in touch with him first, then everyone else!”). The Schenkers arrived in Vienna on the afternoon of September 12.
