Footnotes

1 The letter was originally enclosed with a packet the contents of which were destined for the Photogrammarchiv. Schenker's diary gives us information on this (OJ 4/1, p. 3153, December 15, 1927): "Nachmittag wird ins Hoboken-Archiv das vorbereitete Paket abgeholt: op. 101, 109, 110 (in 2 Exemplaren), op. 111 (in 2 Exemplaren) u. die ganze V. Sinfonie." ("In the afternoon, the prepared packet is picked up for the Hoboken Archive: op. 101, 109, 110 (in two copies), op. 111 (in two copies), and the entire Fifth Symphony."). Schenker placed this material at the disposal of the Photogrammarchiv for an extended period. On December 8, 1928, Schenker recorded in his diary (OJ 4/2, p. 3299): "Von Prof. Haas (Br.): kündigt die Rückgabe der von mir entliehenen Bilder an." ("From Prof. Haas (letter): announces the return of the pictures lent by me."). And on December 12, 1928 he confirmed in writing receipt of the loaned material (PhA/Ar 56, [9]: typewritten confirmation with signature).

2 That Haas acknowledged receipt of the material in a letter is recorded in Schenker's diary (OJ 4/1, p. 3153, December 16, 1927): "Von Dr. Haas (Br.): bestätigt den Empfang der Fotografien." ("From Dr. Haas (letter): confirms receipt of photographs.").
