Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor! 1

Dear Director, 1

Unfortunately, I cannot get to your office before Tuesday (i.e. November 2). 2 Not just the usual inevitable work and lessons, but also it is a little inflammation of the periosteum 3 that needs taking care of.

With kind regards,
Your devoted

Footnotes

1 Writing of this letter is not recorded in Schenker's diary.

2 This is in response to OC 52/41, October 26, 1909, requesting a meeting in the next few days (the 27th being Wednesday).

3 Periosteum is the membrane around bone, in this case dental. Possibly the periodontal ligament, i.e., the connective tissue around a tooth, is intended here, inflammation of which, formerly called "pyorrhea," can lead to bleeding gums and ultimately tooth loss.
