Footnotes

1 Presumably Cube's article "Mehr Hausmusik!", possibly printed in the regional Duisburger General-Anzeiger (Duisburg: Lange, 1914–66), a non-partison newspaper, which ran advertisements and articles of local interest. Cf. OJ 5/7a, [5] : 10-??-26 handwritten letter from Schenker to Cube, undated. The article was prefaced by a cautionary note by the "Editorial Board," suggesting that some readers might disagree with its underlying theoretical arguments. In his letter, Schenker repeatedly refers disparagingly to the "Schriftleitung" as representative of an unenlightened musical establishment. Cube entered the year "1927" on the newspaper clipping; the content of the letter suggests, however, that he had written it in the fall of the previous year.
