Austrian professional solo and orchestral cellist of Romanian birth, elder brother of Arnold Rosé.
Eduard Rosé studied cello at the Vienna Conservatory with K. Udel, and took courses with Anton Bruckner and Eduard Hanslick. In the 1890s he played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, from 1900 to 1926 with the Weimar Hoftheater and Hofkapelle, playing also at Bayreuth, and from 1904 to 1914 at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. He was joint founder of the the Rosé String Quartet from 1882 and served as its cellist until 1905, when replaced by Friedrich Buxbaum. From 1927, he lived in Berlin. He was married to one of Mahler's sisters, Emma. He died in Theresienstadt.
No correspondence between Schenker and Eduard Rosé is known to survive.
