Mountain pass on the border between the Voralberg and the Tyrol, situated on the watershed between the Rhine and Danube valleys. The pass links the Montafon Valley with the Paznaun Valley.

Situated to the north-west of the Schenkers' regular vacation spot, Galtür, the pass is mentioned several times in Schenker's diaries and letters, e.g.: "A few days ago we found ourselves, at our favorite pass (the Zeinis Pass leading into the Montafon Valley) – a mere hour-and-a-quarter to hour-and-a-half away –, transported into early Spring; snow as far as the eye could see, and where the sun had melted it the very first tiny flowers: crocuses, primroses, etc." (OJ 6/7, [5], July 9, 1923).

Correspondence

  • OJ 6/7, [5] Handwritten letter from Heinrich Schenker to Moriz Violin, dated July 9, 1923

Having settled into country life in the Tyrol, Schenker returns to his work, in particular to the ongoing battles with Hertzka over the publication of Der Tonwille. He asks Violin’s opinion about a subscription plan for a periodical that would appear four times a year (instead of the current two), and hopes that his friend might spare a few days to visit him in Galtür.
