Village to the northwest of Vienna, now part of the 19th district (Döbling).
Heiligenstadt was a village on the northwestern outskirts of Vienna, lying on an arm of the Danube River now the Danube Canal, which grew during the 18th and 19th centuries until in 1892 it was incorporated into the city of Vienna. It was linked to it by train in 1898, and now lies within the 19th district (Döbling). It is noted, among other things, for the fact that Beethoven lived there in 1802, and wrote the "Heiligenstadt Testament."
