Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/3, p. 2434, May 29, 1922: "An Hammer (K.): Zusage." ("To Hammer (postcard): acceptance.").

2 Schenker is responding to Hammer's letter of invitation (OJ 11/36, [6]), sent by express mail earlier on the same day.

3 This visit is recorded is Schenker's diary at OJ 3/3, p. 2434: "Bei Hammer zur Jause, von 5–8h; zeigt Bilder, seine Schrift; spricht über die Urlinie – verurteilt meine Polemik, billigt sie aber zugleich." ("At Hammer's for teatime, from 5:00–8:00; he shows [us] pictures, his monograph; talks about Urlinie – condemns my polemics but simultaneously approves of it."). — "Jause" could just as well be translated "afternoon coffee" or "afternoon snack."
