Wienzeile
Vienna
Documents associated with this entity:
Literally "Vienna Row," a thoroughfare in Vienna created between 1899 and 1905 with the re-regulation of the Wien Fluß [Vienna River], and running along the left and right banks of that river: the Linke [Left] Wienzeile and Rechte [Right] Wienzeile, respectively. Both run from the northwest corner of the Karlsplatz in a southwesterly direction, ending on the north side of the Schönbrunn Palace.
The Linke Wienzeile runs initially alongside the Naschmarkt, with Jugendstil houses by Otto Wagner on the right (Wienzeilenhaus and Majolikahaus), through the 6th, 14th and 15th Vienna districts (Mariahilf, Penzing, and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus).
The Rechte Wienzeile runs through the 4th, 5th, and 12th Vienna districts (Wieden, Margareten, Meidling).
