High mountain pass (1,745m) in the Dolomites, 36 km (22 miles) long, connecting the South Tyrol (now part of Italy) to the Trentino, starting at Welschnofen, 21 miles southeast of Bolzano. Nearby is the lake Karersee (Lake Carezza).

Heinrich Schenker spent the summer of 1910 there in the company of his future wife Jeanette Kornfeld (née Schiff), who was, according to Schenker's diary of August 15, 1912, born there ("From the summit of the [Luisa Pass], a gentle glance east at the Karer Pass, Lie-Liechen's birthplace."). Heinrich and Jeanette traveled through the pass in 1913 on their way to vacation in Pfund (Fondo), and again in June 1914, when they heard the news of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by way of the Karerpass Hotel.
