Documents associated with this entity:
Publishing house founded by Georg D. W. Callwey in Munich in 1884.
Verlag Callwey came to national prominence when in 1894 it took a 50% share in the highly influential journal Der Kunstwart . With the latter's founding editor, Ferdinand Avenarius, Callwey worked to influence German education and also, through the Lebensreform movement, to combat the effects of industrialization, materialism, and urbanization upon life.
Other periodicals published by Verlag Callwey included Mappe ‒ Die Malerzeitschrift (1886‒) and Baumeister (1902‒); in the field of landscape architecture it published the journals Topos and Garten + Landschaft.
The publishing house still exists today as a family firm.
